The Asian Snowmen of Winterberry

Since the Christmas season is wrapping up, I would like to share one of my favorite things about Christmas: The Asian Snowmen of Winterberry.

For the past several years, the neighborhood I grew up in has had a theme for Christmas decorations.  It's a pretty awkward situation because a very small number of houses actually participate, which makes the participating houses look REALLY random.

A few years ago, the theme was "Christmas around the World".  There was Hawaii, Switzerland, and some other locations.  My favorite house was Japan.  I about died when I passed this house and noticed three large snowmen made of plywood.  I have no picture, but this is a replica that I created to demonstrate the weirdness/inappropriateness:

This snowman was really sitting in their yard along with two Asian snowmen buddies.  The weirdest part of the whole thing is that the next Christmas theme was "Colleges".  Apparently two of the Asian snowmen were rivals.  One was wearing and Auburn jersey and the other one was sporting an Alabama jersey.

This year, the snowmen were sporting their jerseys again, but had a more Caucasian look (see replica below).

I must say, I'm a little sad that the Asian snowmen will not be celebrating Christmas with us next year.  However, I appreciate the laughs we had together.  Sayonara and Merii Kurisumasu...this means Goodbye and Merry Christmas for those of you who do not speak Japanese.
